A Summer of Travel

I just figured out how many miles I’ve flown in the last four months—well over 150,000 miles. And that doesn’t count miles I’ve traveled by car. As I prepare to fly home from a wonderful near week with my grands, no wonder I’m ready to sit a spell, more or less, in my home in Houston.

I’ve traveled to three countries in Europe.

Traveled to Ohio for a dear friend’s ordination.

Atlanta, Bentonville, Taos, Philadelphia, Chambersville, and four trips to Oregon.

It’s been glorious.

In between travel I’ve preached, officiated at a funeral, celebrated Eucharist, and hosted groups for prayer and community in my home.

I’ve worshiped in churches in Texas, Ohio, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Iceland, and Sweden.

It’s been glorious.

I’ve gone to a high school musical, a middle school concert, middle school football game, WNBA and FIBA Women’s World Cup Basketball, and seen the Indigo Girls and Mavis Staples.

Art exhibits at the High Museum, the Brandywine Museum, Harwood Museum, and museums in Sweden, Berlin, and Iceland. Memorials to the Berlin Wall.

I’ve seen whales, puffins, seals, and sea otters.

I even sat next to Cynthia Cooper on a plane and celebrated the Houston Comets.

It’s been glorious.

But now I’m going home. I’m going to feed the birds, work a bit in the garden, and do a little house organizing.

And see what God has in store. It will be glorious. I’m certain.
